Making Room for What's Next

Across rural Kansas, employers need workers, families need places to live, and communities need opportunities to grow. At the same time, many properties have deteriorated beyond reasonable repair.

Rebuild Our Block connects these challenges with solutions. By removing deteriorated structures and encouraging new housing investment, we're helping communities make better use of existing infrastructure, strengthen neighborhoods, and return properties to productive use.

Know of a House That Needs to Come Down?

Submit an Address

Send us the address and tell us what you know. You do not need to own the property or know the owner — we will research the ownership, condition, and eligibility.

We Review the Property

Program staff research ownership records, code-violation history, and site conditions to determine whether the property meets program criteria.

We Handle the Rest

The property must qualify, all ownership and legal requirements must be addressed, and demolition must be completed.

Financial Assistance Programs

Two programs are available to eligible applicants. All assistance is subject to eligibility requirements, funding availability, and approval.

Demolition Assistance Program

  • Assistance of up to $15,000 per eligible property
  • Available in the five participating counties
  • Property taxes must be current to qualify for financial assistance
  • Applications are subject to eligibility requirements, funding availability, and approval
  • Payment may be made directly to an approved contractor or through reimbursement

Infill Housing Investor Incentive

  • Assistance of up to $5,000
  • May cover up to 50% of approved, eligible infrastructure expenses
  • Eligible expenses may include water, sewer, and electric service installation
  • Intended to encourage new housing development on eligible properties
  • Subject to program guidelines and approval

Funding & Administration

Funding & Partnerships

Rebuild Our Block is a regional housing initiative supported in part by a 2026 grant from the Patterson Family Foundation. This private investment is being directed toward housing and infrastructure needs in rural Kansas without requiring additional taxpayer funding. Kiowa County Economic Development administers the initiative.
